In 1948, WWII veterans and brothers, Arthur and Richard Verneris, decided to fulfill their life long dream of owning their own business. Together, they partnered and opened a small shop in their home town of Hamden, Connecticut. This shop would come to be known as Rainbow Cleaners. The original store was located on Dixwell Avenue and, as the business expanded, Arthur opened a second location on Whitney Avenue.

Both stores served among the first dry cleaners in the Greater New Haven area. In the early 1990’s, Arthur’s three children William, Jeanne and Karen took over the family business. Now, the only original family owned and operated location still running, Rainbow Cleaners on Whitney continues to provide the community with the same quality care and service practiced since its foundation.
